Exhibition "Pirmais gads"
In Cēsis History and art museum visitors can see exhibition “Pirmais gads” which offers deeper insight of events and important persons that play a significant role the year after Latvia’s independency was declared. On November 18, 1918, the Republic of Latvia was proclaimed in Riga - this can be considered as a reference point when a purposeful path to the establishment and conquest of our country has been started. Many people born and educated in the Cēsis district or those who had become forced by the conditions of war in Cēsis participated in the establishment of the state. The first Prime Minister of Latvia, Kārlis Ulmanis, and several of his like-minded people also worked in Priekuļi near Cēsis before the proclamation of the state. The events of the proclamation of the state were echoed in Cēsis as well, where the residents collected donations for a new state, organized scout patrols, and formed one of the first units of the state armed forces - Cēsis platoon.
